Sikkim Travel Restrictions Reimposed – Here’s Everything You Need To Know

1 Mins read

As you might have already heard, read and seen, COVID-19 cases are increasing at a jarring pace. After a lot of states managed to reach single digit cases in a day, the recent steep in cases all over India has proven to be a setback. And the mutations and the new strains have definitely not helped. In this scenario of continuous increasing cases, it is imperative to keep up with the ever-changing guidelines. To ensure that the efforts dedicated to ensuring stagnant cases don’t go to waste, a lot of states and cities have put out new guidelines. Every state is taking the appropriate measures to curb the spread of the virus, as a result, the travel guidelines are being revised and re-revised in accordance to that.

Sikkim recently hit single-digit in cases, hence to stop the spread, the government has imposed the necessary precautionary measures. Every year Sikkim hosts more than 40 thousand foreign tourists and more than 8 lakh domestic travellers. Well, if you are planning to visit the north-east, specifically Sikkim, anytime soon, here are a few things you need to know.

  • People arriving from Maharashtra, Kerala, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to Sikkim will have to produce negative RT-PCR test reports.
  • The test has to be taken a minimum of 72 hours prior travelling.
  • Antigen tests will not be accepted.
  • This rule applies to both locals and tourists.
  • SpiceJet has been taken into confidence to ensure that this is strictly enforced and followed. Hence, any passenger without a COVID-19 negative report will not be allowed to board the flight.

Furthermore, to ensure containment of the virus, there is a set mechanism that is going to be incorporated in Bagdogra, Siliguri and in Pakyong. Moreover, as it is most often difficult to track where people are arriving from in Siliguri, the health department has also decided to deploy dedicated professionals. This will make it easier to map down who has arrived from where and that they have the negative test reports if they are from the aforementioned 5 states. There is a medical team also at the Pakyong Airport.

Though the vaccination drive is underway in Sikkim, these precautionary measures are important to contain the virus. It is imperative to adhere to these guidelines and ensure that not only you are safe but others are too!
