Together they make the kind of loop where you get a gold-plated temple, an empty sunset beach and a 17th-century sea fort in one two-day run.

One thing to know before you plan around that fort, though: the boat crossing to Murud-Janjira is currently closed. Authorities shut it for three months from 26 May 2026 as a monsoon safety measure, and it isn’t expected back until late August. That doesn’t sink this weekend — it just changes what the Murud leg looks like. Here’s the honest, current version of this trip.

TL;DR: Murud-Janjira Fort’s boat service is closed for monsoon (26 May–approx. late August 2026), so the fort itself is off the table right now — Murud town and its beach are still worth the stop. Diveagar and Shrivardhan (20 km apart) are fully open for sightseeing; avoid entering the sea in monsoon swell. class="wp-block-paragraph">No. Authorities closed the boat crossing to Murud-Janjira Fort for three months starting 26 May 2026, specifically for monsoon safety — heavy rain, strong wind and high waves make the sailboat and speedboat crossing from Rajapuri jetty genuinely dangerous during the rains, and the ban is a precaution, not red tape. Based on that three-month window, the fort should reopen around late August 2026, but treat that as an estimate rather than a confirmed date — conditions and administrative timelines can shift.

This is worth building your whole weekend around rather than discovering on arrival. In a normal (non-monsoon) season, the fort runs boats from 7 AM to 4:45 PM, entry is free, and only the crossing costs money — ₹80–100 for a round-trip sailboat from Rajapuri jetty, ₹200–300 for a faster speedboat. None of that applies until the closure lifts.

What this means for your trip: treat Murud as a town-and-beach stop rather than a fort visit this month. Murud’s own beach is a genuinely good one — a straight 3–4 km stretch of sand, with the Siddhi family’s Ahmedganj Palace visible as you enter town — and it doesn’t need a boat. If the fort itself is non-negotiable for you, this is a trip worth doing twice: once now for the coast, once in October when the crossing reopens and the sea calms down.

What’s Actually Open in Diveagar and Shrivardhan This Monsoon?

Both towns stay open and worth visiting through the rains — it’s the water you need to be careful with, not the towns themselves. Diveagar’s 5 km beach and Shrivardhan’s garden-lined shore are both fine to walk, photograph and enjoy from the sand; entering the sea is the part to skip, since monsoon swell along this stretch of the Konkan gets genuinely rough and unpredictable.

In Diveagar: the Suvarna Ganesh Temple is the headline stop — an old Ganpati shrine with a gold-plated idol, set among the coconut and betel-nut plantations that give this coast its green. The beach itself, backed by casuarina trees, is at its most dramatic in the rains: full monsoon surf, dark sand, dramatic skies, best watched from dry ground.

In Shrivardhan: the beach has a garden run along its length and a reputation for one of the coast’s best sunsets — worth timing your evening around, clouds permitting. Kondivali Beach, about 10 km toward Diveagar, adds a small Shankar-Parvati temple and a quieter stretch of sand if you want a second beach stop between the two towns.

Bonus, if you have a third day: Harihareshwar, about 19–20 km from Shrivardhan and 38 km from Diveagar, adds a working Shiva temple right on the beach and a rocky-coast parikrama walk behind it — a proper Konkan pilgrimage-and-nature stop that most itineraries in this belt include when time allows.

The 2-Day Raigad Coast Itinerary

Day 1 — Mumbai to Diveagar to Shrivardhan (~200 km, then 20 km)

Leave Mumbai early — the direct drive to Diveagar runs about 200 km and 5–6 hours depending on your route through Mangaon. Check into your stay, then spend the afternoon at Suvarna Ganesh Temple and a walk on Diveagar’s beach (sand and photos, not swimming — the monsoon surf here is not a place to test yourself). In the evening, drive the short 20–21 km to Shrivardhan and catch the sunset from the beach garden.

Day 2 — Shrivardhan to Murud to Mumbai (~35 km, then ~150 km via Alibaug)

Start with a slow Shrivardhan morning — a second beach walk, or the Kondivali detour if you skipped it on Day 1. Drive the roughly 35 km to Murud by late morning: walk the long beach, see the Siddhi palace from outside, browse the town, and treat the fort as a “next time, in October” note rather than today’s plan. Head back toward Mumbai via Alibaug (~50 km from Murud) — Kashid Beach sits almost exactly between the two (~20 km from Murud, ~32 km from Alibaug) if you want a water-sports stop or just a second beach for lunch, and Alibaug itself makes a natural place to break the drive or extend into a third night (see Where to Stay).

If you have a third day

Add Harihareshwar on the way out of Shrivardhan, or turn the Alibaug end of Day 2 into an overnight instead of a drive-through — both stretch this into a proper long weekend without adding much distance.

Where to Stay

Diveagar and Murud don’t currently show any live StayVista villas, and Shrivardhan has exactly one. The closure is expected to run about three months, so the fort should reopen around late August 2026, though exact reopening dates depend on conditions and haven’t been officially confirmed yet.

Can you still visit Diveagar and Shrivardhan in monsoon?
Yes — both towns and their beaches stay open and are genuinely worth visiting in the rains for sightseeing, temple visits and photography. The one rule: don’t enter the sea. Monsoon swell along this coast is strong and unpredictable, so treat the beaches as viewing and walking spots until the season passes.

How far is Diveagar from Shrivardhan?
About 20–21 km, roughly a 30–40 minute drive — close enough to base yourself in one and day-trip the other, or split one night between them. Harihareshwar, a third beach town often grouped with these two, is a further 19–20 km from Shrivardhan.

How far is Murud from Mumbai and from Diveagar?
Murud is about 150 km from Mumbai via Alibaug (roughly 3 hours), and about 35 km from Shrivardhan. Diveagar itself is around 200 km from Mumbai by the direct route, making the loop through all three towns a genuine 2-day trip rather than a single long day out.

What’s the entry fee and timing for Murud-Janjira Fort when it’s open?
In a normal season, entry to the fort itself is free — you only pay for the boat crossing, which runs ₹80–100 round trip by sailboat or ₹200–300 by speedboat from Rajapuri jetty, operating 7 AM to 4:45 PM daily. None of this applies during the current monsoon closure.

What can you do in Murud if the fort is closed?
Murud’s own beach is a straight 3–4 km stretch of sand, with the Siddhi family’s Ahmedganj Palace visible from the road as you enter town. Kashid Beach, about 20 km away, adds water sports and horse riding if you want a second stop. Treat Murud as a town-and-beach visit this trip, and save the fort for when the crossing reopens.

Is there a villa to stay at directly in Diveagar or Murud?
Not currently — StayVista shows no live properties in either town as of this writing. Shrivardhan has one, Bricks and Tides on Aravi Beach, which works well as a base for the whole loop since it’s roughly central. For a longer weekend, Alibaug (about 50 km from Murud) has more options.

The Short Version

This Raigad loop still works in monsoon — you just need to know, going in, that the fort crossing at Murud-Janjira is closed until roughly late August 2026. Build the weekend around Diveagar’s gold-idol temple and green plantations, Shrivardhan’s sunset beach, and Murud’s town and shoreline, and the fort becomes a good reason to come back in autumn rather than a missed plan.

Base yourself at Bricks and Tides on Aravi Beach for the coast itself, or extend the drive toward Alibaug for a third night — either way, check the fort’s status one more time before you leave, and let the rest of the coast do the entertaining.

Diveagar, Shrivardhan and Murud-Janjira sit along one of the quietest stretches of the Konkan coast — close enough to Mumbai for a weekend, far enough south that the crowds thin…

[911,820
1427,906,1585
post-42730","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-alibaug","category-guides-itineraries","tag-moonsoon-getaways","tag-quick-getaways","tag-raigad

Raigad Monsoon Weekend: Diveagar, Shrivardhan & Murud in 2 Days - StayVista Journal

<meta name="description" content="A 2-day Raigad coast itinerary — Diveagar's beaches, Shrivardhan's sunsets & Murud-Janjira.
