How tall is India's tallest waterfall? Meet the country's 5 giants — some plunging over 450 metres in a single drop. Ranked by height, mapped by state and best seen in monsoon, these are the most spectacular waterfalls India has to offer.
KUNCHIKAL FALLS, KARNATAKA — 455 M
At 455 metres, Kunchikal Falls in Shimoga district is India's tallest waterfall. The Varahi river tumbles in tiered cascades through the Western Ghats — best seen from viewpoints near Mani Dam in peak monsoon.
BAREHIPANI FALLS, ODISHA — 399 M
India's second tallest, Barehipani drops 399 m in two tiers inside Simlipal National Park. Hidden in Odisha's dense sal forest, the falls power the Budhabalanga river and roar loudest between July and October.
NOHKALIKAI FALLS, MEGHALAYA — 340 M
At 340 m, Nohkalikai is India's tallest single-drop plunge waterfall. Near Cherrapunji, it fills only in monsoon, forming a haunting turquoise pool below and hiding a Khasi folktale of its namesake, Ka Likai.
NOHSNGITHIANG FALLS, MEGHALAYA — 315 M
Also called Seven Sisters Falls, this 315-m cascade splits into seven parallel streams during monsoon. Perched on cliffs near Mawsmai in Meghalaya, it glows at sunset and is one of India's most photographed waterfalls.
DUDHSAGAR FALLS, GOA–KARNATAKA — 310 M
Straddling the Goa–Karnataka border in Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary, Dudhsagar plunges 310 m in four white tiers. The 'sea of milk' is at its wildest in August — best viewed from the iconic railway bridge crossing.
